Far North Healthcare

The Northland District Health Board (NDHB) is responsible for providing government funded health care services for the people of the Far North.

There are hospitals in Kawakawa (Bay of Islands), and Kaitāia which feed into the regional based hospital in Whāngārei, south of the district. Both the Bay of Islands and Kaitāia hospitals offer a wide range of services.

Bay of Islands hospital services include:

• Maternity
• Radiology
• Outpatients

Kaitāia hospital services include:

• Day surgery
• Paediatrics
• Maternity

The Far North is serviced by a network of GP's and other primary health providers. Generally, primary health practitioners form Primary Health Organisations (PHO's). PHO's are collectives of health services who work together to improve the health of people in a community.
